Tyler Spartans Shine in Kansas City: Finish 2nd out of 66 Teams

The Tyler Spartans 2027 – Lewis team traveled to Kansas City to participate in the PBR Midwest Premier Super 15 on June 19-22.

The Spartans kicked off the tournament with an impressive 12-1 win over NBA Marucci. Tyler Keen delivered a standout pitching performance, going 4 2/3 innings allowing just 1 hit and 1 unearned run while strking out 7. Donnie Blunt led the offensive charge by collecting 3 hits. Over the course of the next 3 games, the Spartans secured the #14 seed in the Gold Bracket with a 3-1 pool record, allowing only 16 runs, while scoring 42.

In a remarkable run, the Spartans battled their way to the championship game, ultimately falling to the #1 seed, Missouri Bulls.

The 66-team tournament was by far the largest any Spartans team has participated in since its inception. Their performance has set a high bar for future teams, demonstrating the potential Spartans’ teams have to compete with the best.

Steve Lewis

Steve Lewis has been with the Tyler Spartans since the very beginning. He is a passionate coach that gets the most out of his players. After one year as a member of the Mt. San Jacinto Jr. College baseball team (San Jacinto, CA), Steve joined the Air Force and proudly served our country for 4 years. In 2013, Steve moved to Flint, Texas where he continued coaching youth baseball. Coach Lewis brings a wealth of baseball knowledge as a former varsity assistant baseball coach at Brook Hill High School (Bullard, TX). Along with working full-time and managing 2 Tyler Spartans teams, Coach Lewis gives private baseball lessons in his free time.
